Amazing Yarn Art!

December 8, 2012, Posted in Accessories, Design Collection, Embroidery, SewFun! Blog by  Lena Kantis

This ia a new special Design Collection from Husqvarna Viking®  # 252 Yarn Art!

It has got a total of 37 embroideries, and many of those are possible to combine, even around corners. It is embroidered by using the Husqvarna Viking® accessory; The Yarn Couching Feet Set.

In the booklet you can see how to combine embroideries to create a poncho. Other ideas of what those embroideries can be used for:  A bag with decorations on the front and on the handle, pop-up brooches, edgings for garments or home decorations. It is very much up to your imagination where to add them! With other words- unlimited options! Here are some pictures of our sewing samples.

Before I moved I was embroidering a poncho in turqouise on my Husqvarna Viking® Designer Diamond deLuxe. It was hilarious to see how I had embroideries all over, in water, hanging to dry etc.

The yarn I used, was a 100% wool. For other embroideries, we did use cotton, that was a bit thicker but still not too big to fit in the Yarn couching Feet. My tip is to bring the Yarn couching Feet set to the shop, when you are buying the yarn. I did try the size of the yarn before I bought it, and do make sure it is not to ”fluffy”, it could be tangled if it is.

Small things like the flower and leaf decoration, you can make as a Christmas Gift and if you love embroidery, why not add the  design collection on your own wishlist?

As I was working on my dress, and have not yet been able to locate stores that has got all the items I would like to use, I did come up with other solutions. Thought you might want to see what I did. Instead of the lace for the edge around the v-neck and sleeves, I used a matching solid blue stretch fabric. Cut a long strip and ironed it lengthwise to be used as a piping. To help me keeping it perfectly on the width of 4mm, I did use the basting stitch (6 mm long straight stitch) to run on the folded edge 4mm from the edge. Then it was easy to sew along that line stitching it in place on the dress.  I recommend using the Husqvarna Viking® Interchangeable Dual Feed Foot, when you are sewing on several layers of stretch fabric.

Next thing was to stitch it along the edge, following the 15mm (5/8th) seam allowance. Iron again and finally I top stitched below the piping with a twin needle (2mm). Of course using the Twin Needle Safety in the Set Menu to make sure I do not accidentally hit any other stitch and prevent me from breaking my needle.

I have finished the dress and the wallhanging. Here they are!

I have cut another dress in black with white dots. A Burda Magazine that I did bring here had a nice pattern.

Linnea 18, (Simon’s girlfriend) has been using a old denim jeans that has been worn out, to create a denim jacket and a denim vest. She mixed black and blue denim, and used the same denim jacket pattern for the two garments.

Another project that is made out of a pair of jeans; is a  trapunto tote bag and it is  created using the new Quilt Block Wizard in the  Husqvarna Viking® Quilt Design Creator™. Watch the video, with Sue Hausmann and Janie Lantz where they talk about this project.

For the new Husqvarna Viking® Mega Endless Hoop- we have created a new design collection, #249 – “Mega Endless Floral” with stylish endless flowers and some are even made to match sideways so that you can create an allover fabric embroidery.

The designs can of course also be sewn out using the Husqvarna Viking® Designer Crown Hoop 260 x 200, or the Husqvarna Viking® Designer Royal Hoop: 360 x 200mm. You will need to work more with the Design Position feature if you want to create them as endless embroideries.

Summer time and maybe a visit to the beach?

July 5, 2012, Posted in Accessories, Design Collection, Embroidery, Inspiration, SewFun! Blog by  Lena Kantis

I must admit I love this time of the year. Mainly because of all the daylight hours and the possibilities for more time to visit friends and family and be out door, and at the beach.

Next week, I will visit a friend, and I have decided to embroider a couple of towels for her children. I love the new Inspira, design collection called “Funky Fish”, so I will pick a couple of designs from there, and I will add the names of the children in Husqvarna Viking® 5D™ embroidery as there are many beautiful fonts to choose from.

Here is one towel we have embroidered here in the office

I have finished my table cloth. I did use the Husqvarna Viking® Interchangeable Dual Feed Foot, to stitch in the ditch and to finish the binding. Find the instruction how to use it in the accessory users guide:

It does make a huge difference as it does feed the fabric from both top and bottom. Looks great on both sides after stitching as you can see.

Happy Sewing!
