Happy New Year- and wishes for many relaxing sewing times!

January 6, 2012, Posted in Embroidery, Embroidery Software, Inspiration, SewFun! Blog, Sewing by  Lena Kantis

A new year is here, and we can look forward to the days that is now getting longer and we will be getting more daylight. That is wonderful as it is easier to get more things done. In Huskvarna we are sewing a lot for photo shoots this month, things that you will be able to see during the spring. Very busy, so you  can look forward to see many new wonderful things.

Kerstin has been sewing for her grand children. Two small boys that are cousins and both one year. She did sew pyjamas for them in soft flannel. Very cute with monograms on the front pockets.

I have been very fortunate to have all my four children at home during the holidays, it is such a blessing. Johanna went with me to the office one day to embroider small appliques for her overall. An outfit the students are wearing when they have something that they call riots (when they are out having fun events)  All made from pictures selected from the internet. Johanna used the paint program and then brought the pictures into the 5D Embroidery System, where she used the Express Design Wizard. I think they look great. With the special look of pixels. I think you recognize who they are and what game they are from

Sewing beautiful small gifts!

December 6, 2011, Posted in Embroidery, Embroidery Software, Home Dec, Inspiration, SewFun! Blog by  Lena Kantis

Kerstin and I have been running our embriodery machines to create some small gifts. I have been sending a small gift to my daughter Johanna. I have used the new Inspira™collection ” Snowmen”. Very nice embroideries, and humorous. I think you will like them. I bought a towel at Ikea, mix of linen and cotton.

Here is a close up. The text above the embroidery has been added in Husqvarna Viking® 5D™ Embroidery system. It says God Jul, which is Merry Christmas in Swedish.

Kerstin is making small Christmas Cards. She is going to send 25 Cards. See how clever she is by combining one embroidery and stitch six in each embroidery hoop. That way she will only need to do it four times plus one design!

There are many wonderful embroidery designs in the Inspira™collection ” Snowmen”. Sew them on childrens outfits, or make quick gifts.

September 16, 2011, Posted in Embroidery Software, Inspiration, Overlock by  Lena Kantis

Last week, we went to Stockholm to see a Fashion Exhibition. Before we went home we did get the chance to visit a Husqvarna Viking® sewing machine store that also sells fabric.  I ended up buying five fabrics!

The brown fabric, is what I have now started to sew.  I did decorate the fabric to make it pop a bit more. The embroideries I used, is found in the Husqvarna Viking® 5D™Embroidery system, in the sample folders from 5D Embroidery/Stitch 2/Flowers. I did only stitch the first color and it turned out to look exactly as the flower print on the fabric.

Since I gained a bit of weight in Greece, and I am still planning to loose some of it, I had to make the skirt adjustable!

Here is how to do it. Cut your both the skirt and a lining. Sew the fabric and lining together on the side seams using a three of four thread overlock stitch. I used the the Husqvarna Viking® HUSKYLOCK™ s15 machine.

At the waist, I added a bias binding. See pictures. It does need to be one piece for each part of the skirt in order to make it easy to make the size smaller later. Here is a picture to show how it is done.

Sew the zipper in place in one of the side- seams, I used a centered zipper. A great instruction is found at: Sew the other side- seam.

Finally only fold, iron and stitch the hem.

I am “sew” very happy to introduce the new Sew Fun! blog. A real blog in all senses. Now we can interact much more! A big thank you for all your emails asking for the blog! Now it is up and running again.

So, what´s new? There are many new improved functions of the blog, that will make it easier to read and follow! For instance you can search and find different categories, ask questions directly on the blog, and add your own comments.

My hope is that you will find inspiration in different sewing areas.

Since the last blog, I have been in Greece on vacation, and I did sew a bit there too. See my sewing area in the living room. I brought the overlock this year, so I can have the nice finish of the edges on all my projects, that is “sew” neat. I did finish a skirt, and can now concentrate on decorating it with some embroideries. I think I will embroider a lace to finish the edge. I will show you when it is done!

After my vacation, I had three days in the office before traveling to San Antonio, Texas, (the United States). There I did teach classes on how to create one-of-a-kind embroidered greeting cards, using the the new 5D™ Embroidery product, the Husqvarna Viking® 5D™Card Shop.

This is the new Husqvarna® Viking 5D™ Card Shop.

It is available in the dealer stores, and at the

Summer is here!

June 8, 2011, Posted in Design Collection, Embroidery, Embroidery Software by  Lena Kantis

Summer has finally arrived in Sweden, yesterday it was 30°C (86F).

At the office we are working on the products we are going to launch after the summer holidays, so today I went to the photo studio to see how the photographer took pictures on the new projects. They looked great. I will share later of course.

I am sewing on a dress with letters, and text. Same kind as below, but I will make mine in black with colourful text and I am of course using the new Superfonts, from the HUSQVARNA VIKING® 5D™ Embroidery system. I have decided to use words that I like and the name of my children etc.

I have finished my brown cutwork dress, and Helene also happened to have a dress on that she had sewn, so here is a picture of the two of us.

Both of us have used the HUSQVARNA VIKING ® Design Collection #230, Easy Cutwork. Helene also made a slip under her dress using the HUSQVARNA VIKING ® Design Collection # 223, Bobbin Lace.

Happy Sewing!
