Final lap!

December 16, 2011, Posted in Embroidery, Inspiration, Overlock, SewFun! Blog by  Lena Kantis

Hope you are keeping calm and enjoying this last week before Christmas. I think sewing does give me some relaxation, and I enjoy to create my ideas. We do not have any snow yet, some are very happy for that and some are of course dissapointed! Especially if they want to practise skiing. Some of my friends are going to ski the  ”Vasa loppet”. A skiing competition of 90km! (almost 55.9 miles!)

Must say that I wonder what you are sewing? You are more than welcome to post it on the Husqvarna Viking® Official Facebook page!

If you did open the HusqvarnaViking® Holiday Calendar,  we put a pattern in the Christmas Calendar- Day 12, here are the instruction.  First a picture of the baby hat!

Husqvarna Viking® Christmas Calendar # 12- Hat Instruction

Here is how to sew the little baby hat. Size is 9-12 month.

If you want to use it for a child a little bit older, add more seam allowance. Cut out the pieces and measure on a hat that does fit your child to compare.

If you are planning to decorate the little baby hat with embroidery or an appliqué, you will do that before you sew it. The embroidery on the sample is from an Inspira™ collection # 102

“Flower Fun”. Put the pattern piece above the decoration until you will be happy with the placement.

  1. Sew the dart and iron it towards the back.
  2. Put the two pieces right side together and sew from A to B. Read More »

Sewing beautiful small gifts!

December 6, 2011, Posted in Embroidery, Embroidery Software, Home Dec, Inspiration, SewFun! Blog by  Lena Kantis

Kerstin and I have been running our embriodery machines to create some small gifts. I have been sending a small gift to my daughter Johanna. I have used the new Inspira™collection ” Snowmen”. Very nice embroideries, and humorous. I think you will like them. I bought a towel at Ikea, mix of linen and cotton.

Here is a close up. The text above the embroidery has been added in Husqvarna Viking® 5D™ Embroidery system. It says God Jul, which is Merry Christmas in Swedish.

Kerstin is making small Christmas Cards. She is going to send 25 Cards. See how clever she is by combining one embroidery and stitch six in each embroidery hoop. That way she will only need to do it four times plus one design!

There are many wonderful embroidery designs in the Inspira™collection ” Snowmen”. Sew them on childrens outfits, or make quick gifts.

Happy Sewing!

Christmas Stocking for Alva!

November 25, 2011, Posted in Embroidery, Inspiration, Seasonal, SewFun! Blog by  Lena Kantis

I can´t believe it, it is soon the last month of the year, December and the holidays are getting closer. Time to prepare for the joy of giving! We have been a team of people that has been working on the Holiday campaing for the web. Click on the link to take a look! http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/mediafiles/Holiday_2011/?l=us. Why not sew a new Christmas Stocking for somebody that you love? It is time to get started! Erika my colleague has been sewing one for her youngest daughter Alva. Here are some pictures on how to sew it! The little Angel embroidery design is from the Husqvarna Viking® Design Collection # 141 ” Very Cool Christmas”. You can find the design collection at myembroideris.com, and there are many more to choose from!

After the embriodery, she did sew the stocking, and a lining for the stocking.

She finished the top of the stocking with adding a bit of fake fur. Here are all Christmas Stockings for her three children. I bet they will soon start to wait for Santa.

 Happy Sewing and HappyThanksgiving!

The one hour dress!

September 30, 2011, Posted in Design Collection, Embroidery, Inspiration by  Lena Kantis

To have an overlock machine is the best thing in the world, that is because it is faboulous to create quick projects. I made a dress out of a knitted fabric (second fabric from Stockholm) within an hour. I used the Husqvarna Viking® Huskylock s15 for the construction. My daughter took the picture of me in the finished dress, and she told me to make a fun look, so I did!

A skirt is what I am sewing on today. It is a terracotta colored fabric, and I am lucky as I did also get to try out the new Husqvarna Viking® Embroidery design collection # 243, Handlook Needlework II.

I  did work with several  kinds of threads but if you want to have the “thicker” look of the stitches you should of course select to have the 30 weight cotton (or Rayon) thread. I will finish the skirt during the weekend.

I did also embroider one more 5D Card, using the Husqvarna Viking® 5D™ CARD SHOP to send to the United Kingdom.  I used the monochrome linear, which is one of my favorit features. I think it does look astonishing!

Greetings to all, and have a Happy Sewing!

The Final Touch!

September 24, 2011, Posted in Embroidery, Inspiration, SewFun! Blog by  Lena Kantis

The skirt I did sew in Greece, is finished. I did make a few additional details to it.

Two rows of braid that I stitched in plase using the Husqvarna Viking Transparent Foot B. To get it in the exact correct position, I marked lines, usign a fabric marker then used a double faced fusible stabiliser strip, and ironed it in place before stitching. Quick and Easy. I did leave a bit of the braids hanging on the sides, to be able to add a crouchet embroidery there as well.

The Design collection is the new Husqvarna Viking embroidery collection #244″ Quilting with Crochet  .It is a fun collection as it has got embroideries for quilt blocks, stand alone crochet designs, as well as combination for pop-up flowers. In my opinion this is a great collection to use if you want to make small gifts as well as very specially decorated quilt blocks. Love the fact that I could sew the embroideries in purple, to match my fabric.

Here is one of my favorit pictures from the collection. See all the options!

Happy Sewing!
