Sharing more pictures of what Kerstin did sew for her daughter’s wedding!

July 21, 2012, Posted in Inspiration, SewFun! Blog by  Lena Kantis

It is very hot in Greece, we are out by the sea every day and I read a lot of books.  As we have teenagers that are sleeping longer in the morning, I get some time to work on my computer.I am writing scripts for some videos that we are going to shoot in Huskvarna, Sweden, when I get back to the office. It will be some instruction on what we have sewn.

I have written before regarding the wedding preparations for Kerstin’s daughter Josefin. As a mother of the bride Kerstin did sew the wedding dress. Here you can see when the fitting was done in our sewing studio.

The two grandchildren walked done the aisle wearing the outfit sewn by their grandmother, dark pants, silver colored wests, and bow ties for all three guys in pink. The family does look great!

Finally she did also spend some time to sew and embroider her own outfit. Kerstin is looking amazing in the strawberry red silk.

I look forward to the day when it is my turn to sew for my daughters.  Next year will be the option to sew together with my son’s girlfriend Linnea, as she will be graduating next year and will sew her prom dress. I wonder what color and model of the dress, she will pick.

Maxi dress- best mosquito protection!

July 12, 2012, Posted in Overlock, SewFun! Blog, Sewing by  Lena Kantis

Maria has inspired me to sew a dress! She did sew a very nice long dress, in a medium weight knit on her overlock. I borrowed her pattern, which is a Burda pattern number 7555.

Here is a picture of the two of us!

Note, the difference in length between the two of us. The great thing of sewing our own Maxi dresses are of course the possibility to get the length we want. Maria do rarely find dresses for her length.

Eva-Britt, did help me to pin the hem, then I did iron it before stitching. (If the fabric is very heavy, leave it on a hanger for 24 hours then it will not change in length.) I did learn something new as Eva-Britt was pinning. She told me to always start sewing from the bottom of the skirt parts if the dress is like the above, A- shaped. It will keep the layers come together in a better way.

I wanted to share two options to hem the skirt; You can easily hem it by using a twin needle, or you can use the new Inspira™Clear Coverstitch Foot for the Husqvarna Viking® Huskylock s25. See in the accessory user´s guide how it does work.

See how it is creating a nice hem. After finishing it is easy to use the scissor to cut off the excess of them on the inside.

On Sunday we will travel to Rhodes, Greece to visit my mother in law, and to have our vacation. It is wonderful.  However one of the reasons for me to sew a long dress is due to the fact that in Rhodes, there are many mosquitos.  Last year I had 25 spots on each leg from the knees down to my feet, and I did realize that if I wore a long dress, the mosquitos could not get to my legs to bite me.
As my mother in law has got a sewing machine and an overlock, I will bring a piece of fabric to create another dress.

I will stay three weeks in Greece, then I will be back at the office. I will keep you updated on some sewing that will take place in Greece as well as sharing a couple of things we have worked on lately.

Happy Sewing.

Summer time and maybe a visit to the beach?

July 5, 2012, Posted in Accessories, Design Collection, Embroidery, Inspiration, SewFun! Blog by  Lena Kantis

I must admit I love this time of the year. Mainly because of all the daylight hours and the possibilities for more time to visit friends and family and be out door, and at the beach.

Next week, I will visit a friend, and I have decided to embroider a couple of towels for her children. I love the new Inspira, design collection called “Funky Fish”, so I will pick a couple of designs from there, and I will add the names of the children in Husqvarna Viking® 5D™ embroidery as there are many beautiful fonts to choose from.

Here is one towel we have embroidered here in the office

I have finished my table cloth. I did use the Husqvarna Viking® Interchangeable Dual Feed Foot, to stitch in the ditch and to finish the binding. Find the instruction how to use it in the accessory users guide:

It does make a huge difference as it does feed the fabric from both top and bottom. Looks great on both sides after stitching as you can see.

Quick tablecloth!

To add more personality, make your sewing project in your favorit color and joyful fabrics.

Our apartment in China was already furnished when we moved in. To make it more personalised I have started to sew some small items. First thing, is this table cloth in my favorit color turquoise. I cut all pieces 5 inches by 5 inches and created a small square.

I will add a thin layer of batting and have a dark blue fabric as backing. I will “stitch in the ditch” with the Husqvarna Viking® Presser foot “Clear Stitch-in- Ditch Foot # 412927446.
An excellent foot to use for clear visibility and sewing in the ditch.

Here is the instruction in the online Husqvarna Viking® accessory catalogou, on how to use it!

Gift for a Christening!

May 23, 2012, Posted in SewFun! Blog by  Lena Kantis

The most memorable gifts for a Christening last Saturday were made by Maria that is working in the marketing team.

She created two gifts, a wonderful bunny, that she embroidered using the Husqvarna Viking®Design Collection #172 “Be My Bunny”.

It is very fun to make this as you embroider piece by piece, and then sew it together. The design collection is available at

Second gift was a personal Christening card using the Husqvarna Viking® 5D™Card Shop.

Amazing quality of her portrait stitch in sepia colors. The picture had been taken by a cell phone of the baby when she was newborn. It is amazing.

See how wonderful it does look.

Happy Sewing!
