A new Husqvarna Viking® HǀClass™ 100Q sewing machine  that is light weight and easy to carry, a most wanted sewing machine to bring to classes! It is  a sewing machine that will need a very  limited space for storage and would be fantastic for a beginner, or as a Christmas present!  It is easy to use, and it does use  the Husqvarna Viking presser feet. Great if you already have a bunch! Find more information here:

We enjoyed to create the colorful scarf for the new Husqvarna Viking 100Q. It was made in silk, velvet, fleece and woven fabrics.  Pin the pieces on awater soluble stabiliser and stitch them together edge to edge with a zig zag or a decorative stitch. Wash and it is ready!

Happy Sewing!

Silk Embroidery Factory

November 11, 2011, Posted in Inspiration, SewFun! Blog by  Lena Kantis

In the town of Suzhou, China, there is a factory that is making hand embroidered art. We were invited to take a tour with a guide. I was very impressed to see the women handembroidered paintings in beautiful silk. They did not draw anything on the fabric before embrodiering it, they only used a picture in front of them. What an impressive skill.

Love these wonderful art work. Happy Sewing!

On the other side of the World!

I am off on vacation this week, my first trip to China. I am in a city by the name of Suzhou, an hour away from Shanghai. I am very lucky as I had a wonderful guided tour at the Silk Factory.  A guide took us on a tour, showing the complete development from worm tosilk.  First picture is the small silkworms, we were allowed to pat them and they were very soft.

Next step was the cocoons, those could contain ut to 1 000 meters of silk.

The coccons were boiled, and the silk was spun onto spools.

Next step was to make use of the silk in various ways. First thing was to weave fabric, the other thing to use it for is silk duvet. Here you can see how I was part of pulling out the silk for the silk duvet. I think it is almost like a spider web, very strong.

Finally I ended up…. yes in a store where they had wonderful rolls of fabric, garments, duvets, home decorations and much more. Did I buy anything? Yes it was to hard to resist, as I love silk. My two childen that was also with me, was not happy waiting for two hours while I did my shopping.

Happy Sewing!

PS I have more stories to share here from China. DS

The Final Touch!

September 24, 2011, Posted in Embroidery, Inspiration, SewFun! Blog by  Lena Kantis

The skirt I did sew in Greece, is finished. I did make a few additional details to it.

Two rows of braid that I stitched in plase using the Husqvarna Viking Transparent Foot B. To get it in the exact correct position, I marked lines, usign a fabric marker then used a double faced fusible stabiliser strip, and ironed it in place before stitching. Quick and Easy. I did leave a bit of the braids hanging on the sides, to be able to add a crouchet embroidery there as well.

The Design collection is the new Husqvarna Viking embroidery collection #244″ Quilting with Crochet  .It is a fun collection as it has got embroideries for quilt blocks, stand alone crochet designs, as well as combination for pop-up flowers. In my opinion this is a great collection to use if you want to make small gifts as well as very specially decorated quilt blocks. Love the fact that I could sew the embroideries in purple, to match my fabric.

Here is one of my favorit pictures from the collection. See all the options!

Happy Sewing!

I brought the overlock this year, so I can have the nice finish of the edges on all my projects, that is “sew” neat. I did finish a skirt, and can now concentrate on decorating it with some embroideries. I think I will embroider a lace to finish the edge. I will show you when it is done!

After my vacation, I had three days in the office before traveling to San Antonio, Texas, (the United States). There I did teach classes on how to create one-of-a-kind embroidered greeting cards, using the the new 5D™ Embroidery product, the Husqvarna Viking® 5D™Card Shop.
